How to fix a keyboard typing double letters on Mac

Tyyping like thiss? A worn key is sending two presses for one.

Short answer

macOS has no filter for keys that bounce. MacFixes ignores the accidental second press.

What macOS gives you

Accessibility → Keyboard has Slow Keys, which delays every key and makes normal typing sluggish. Key repeat settings don’t help with a key that bounces.

How MacFixes fixes it

  1. 1
    Add the fix
Open MacFixes Settings → Keyboard and add “Key repeat filter”. Fixes are off until you add them.
  2. 2
    Allow Accessibility and Input Monitoring
macOS asks for both so MacFixes can see and drop the repeated press.
  3. 3
    Set the window
Choose how close together two presses of the same key must be to count as a bounce: 20 to 120 ms, 40 ms by default.

Questions

Will it block double letters I mean to type?

No. A bounce arrives within a few dozen milliseconds; typing “ll” on purpose is far slower, so it comes through.
