How to fix a mouse that double-clicks on Mac
One click opens two things, drags drop early, and files open when you meant to select them — the classic worn mouse button.
Short answer
macOS can’t tell a worn button’s bounce from a real double click. MacFixes ignores the accidental second click.
What macOS gives you
System Settings → Accessibility lets you change the double-click speed, which doesn’t stop a faulty button bouncing. The usual fix is a new mouse.
How MacFixes fixes it
- 1Add the fixOpen MacFixes Settings → Mouse and add “Double-click filter”. Fixes are off until you add them.
- 2Allow AccessibilitymacOS asks for Accessibility permission so MacFixes can drop the accidental second click.
- 3Adjust if neededSet how close together two clicks must be to count as a bounce (60 ms by default). Deliberate double clicks still work.
This is one of 28 fixes in MacFixes.

Questions
Will normal double-clicks still work?
Yes. Only a second click closer than the threshold you set — 60 ms by default — is ignored, and a deliberate double click is much slower than that.
